Bio

Barbara Allen-Watkins “always wanted to give back” and the cause that really touched her heart was homelessness. “Homelessness is such a huge issue and not just in LA but all over the world,” states Allen-Watkins. “It’s a global issue.”

When Allen-Watkins started looking for the right social services organization to affiliate with, her friendship with Lillian Ponce de Leon and Paz Hernandez, members of the Weingart Center Partners volunteer group, led to an introduction to the Weingart Center and its programs to help homeless men and women.  Allen-Watkins has been a loyal supporter of the Weingart Center ever since, volunteering at many fundraising and participant events.  She joined the Weingart Center Board of Directors early in 2008.

The Weingart Center for the Homeless provides comprehensive human services to homeless men, women, veterans, parolees, families, HIV+ and other at-risk individuals, giving them the skills, resources, and hope they need to lead productive lives off the streets. Located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles' Skid Row, the Weingart Center for the Homeless is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that breaks the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
