Since assuming the role of President and CEO of the Weingart Center Association in 2011, Murray has significantly expanded the organization's impact in addressing homelessness in Los Angeles. Before leading the Weingart Center, Murray founded The Murray Group, a legal and consulting firm specializing in public policy and entertainment, where he served as Managing Partner. Earlier, he was Senior Vice President at the William Morris Agency (WMA), one of the nation’s most prominent talent agencies. Murray began his career at WMA in 1982 in the mailroom and rose to become an agent in the Music Division, later working across the corporate consulting, music, television, and film divisions. After serving 12 years in the California State Legislature, he returned to WMA in 2007.
Murray was elected to the California State Assembly in 1994, representing the 47th District. He later served in the State Senate from 1998 to 2006, representing the 26th District, which included communities such as Hancock Park, Hollywood, and Silverlake, before retiring due to term limits.
He currently serves on the boards of the Los Angekes County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency (LACAHSA), California American Water, and Hawaii American Water. He is also a board member of the Central City Association and a member of the California State Bar, the L.A. World Affairs Council, and the Pacific Council on International Relations.
