Meet Ime - A Success Story
Meet Ime
Finding it difficult to solidify a stable foundation after his release from incarceration in 2017, Ime fell into homelessness. "Being on parole was a major barrier for me," he states.
In 2018, Ime contacted the Weingart Center seeking Crisis Housing services, completing the program in 2019.
In 2020, Ime received additional Crisis Housing services and enrolled in the Weingart Center's Open Door program.
One of Ime's goals after getting off parole was to obtain permanent housing. He states, "permanent housing was necessary for me to gain stability and reconnect with my family."
Working closely with his case manager, Ime remained focused on fulfilling another goal in his housing/stability plan: obtaining employment. He received a certificate of completion for OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training, a course designed to train employees on proper cleanup operations, emergency response operations, and the storage, disposal, and treatment of hazardous substances.
In April of 2020, Ime successfully transitioned into permanent housing while receiving residential and non-residential services through the Weingart Center and outside agencies such as People Concern, JWCH Clinic, and others. After the delivery of his home furnishings, provided through the Skid Row Move-In Assistance Program, Ime shared his appreciation. "I am overwhelmed by how much I received. I was not expecting so much," he states.
Gratified with the services he received through the Weingart Center, Ime sent a personal email to his Case Manager, the Program Supervisor, and the Open Door Program Manager thanking them for their support.
Believing his own success in overcoming homelessness can help others, Ime advises, "Don't give up."
