UPDATES - Weingart Golf Classic 2020

PUTTER LATE THAN NEVER

(Don’t worry. That’ll be the only bad golf pun used in these updates. We promise.)

UPDATE • JULY 24

We are almost two weeks away from the big day and it’s all coming together, however we have had a new update to the tournament. Given the stepback Los Angeles and the state have taken with COVID-19, Sherwood is officially confirming that we need to do a Tee Times Tournament format instead of the Shotgun format to stay in compliance with local/state government regulations to accommodate the most physically distanced environment possible. This is what they have been doing with their members and will be for the foreseeable future until things improve.

  • Just like a PGA Tour event, we will split the field and use both the 1st and the 10th Tees to start. So there will still be a festive atmosphere and you will still be able to say hello, socialize (at a distance), see each other at the Driving Range, etc.

  • Your Tee Times will be emailed to you the week of August 3rd before the event and will be posted here on the Weingart website.

  • You may arrive up to 60 minutes before your assigned Tee Time to register, receive your gift bag, eat breakfast, grab a Bloody Mary or Mimosa, participate in the Putting Contest and warm up at the Driving Range.

  • The $250 VIP Package and Opportunity Board Squares and Golf Ball Drop Contest sales will be available during the morning, HOWEVER, please consider pre-purchasing these items prior to the tournament to aid in a  “contact-less” check-in process.  Go to the event website to purchase:  https://one.bidpal.net/weingartgolf2020

    • We have some great prizes on the board with the Grand Prize being a set of Titleist Irons! The winning numbers will be drawn towards the end of the day and the prizes will be staged for the winners upon your departure.

    • The Golf Ball Drop Winner will be drawn on Tuesday and winner notification will be sent on Tuesday along with the tournament award winners.

    • The Auction will go live on Monday, August 3rd with our wonderful items: Golf at Sherwood, Golf at Riviera, Taber Co Burger Truck & Golf at the Lexus Pebble Beach Champions for Charity Tournament.

  • All golfers will be assigned a single cart. Due to the limited access to cart rentals, we are asking for volunteers who might want to walk the course!

    • Your bag will be on your partners cart

    • You can ride out to the starting hole & back after your round with your partner, but must wear your mask.

    • You may ride with your partner up any of the hills that are around the course.

    • Please let me know ASAP if you are willing to walk, so we can confirm our cart assignments. Sherwood is a beautiful course for walking, so we appreciate it!  THANK YOU!!

  • We are looking forward to a wonderful day of golf!  We will still be able to do all of the fun tournament elements -the cocktails, snacks, beverages& contests on course, the hand-rolled cigars, Bloody Marys & Mimosas at breakfast, iced coffiee & smoothies in the morning along with a BBQ lunch and a wonderful To-Go Dinner will be provided for you as you leave.

We greatly appreciate your continued support! Let me know if you have any questions about any of this new update. Thank you all for your efforts!

UPDATE • JULY 9

The Weingart Golf Classic 2020 is now one month away and we are right on track for this year’s event. For those who have already signed up to play in this year’s tournament, be on the lookout for a special email coming from our golf committee. In that email, you will find a lot of useful information as it pertains to the event. If you have any questions prior to that email’s release, please contact marisam@weingart.org.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday, August 10.

UPDATE • JUNE 1

At the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, the Weingart Center took proactive measures by rescheduling its Weingart Golf Classic 2020 event to Monday, August 10. This allowed time for our team to work side-by-side with Sherwood Country Club on instituting safety measures that are in accordance with federal, local, and state protocols.

We are happy to announce that our 2020 Golf Classic is, in fact, happening, and that we have some extra special things in store for our golf participants this year.

The Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, CA is one of the top championship golf courses in the world, and is home to some of the world’s most breathtaking natural beauty. And—as in previous years—the Weingart Golf Classic will offer high-end tee gifts to participants, incredible auction items, and a half-day Golf School. These are just a few of the things that remain unchanged.

One thing that is different (and perhaps the most exciting) is an all-new Virtual Pre-Game Warm Up, scheduled for Sunday, August 9. This special virtual event is designed to amp up the excitement, provide important golf day information and instructions, and give players the opportunity to socially engage prior to Monday’s golf event.

Above all else, our team would like to thank all of our sponsors, including our title sponsor, City National Bank for their continued support throughout this entire process, as well as Ray Haj and Swinerton Builders for their incredible partnership. Without all of you, none of this would be possible!

Be sure to bookmark this page, as it will function as our official update communiqué for golf participants, sponsors, and donors.

Contact Marisa at marisam@weingart.org if you have any additional questions regarding this event.
